Does your girlfriend/wife/partner even like the burly beard attached to your chin, or would she rather have you as smooth as a baby's bottom? Now that is a great question. I wonder how many guys even care enough to ask their significant other about their beardly preference. My bet is::the type of beard you rock has a real affect on one's love life.
As I am writing this my wife is in a conversation with a friend...no joke this is in real time... she says verbatim,"I don't even like Stephen without facial hair." Really? "You don't even like me without it?", I asked. She says, "That's not what I meant, I meant I have gotten so used to you with it, it just looks strange without it."
That conversation got my google gear turning and I went on a web search for an answer for us bearded brothers. Do our ladies really like our beards or not?
Well, in a study written in the NY Times* the simple results are these.
1. Women looking for a short term fling prefer shorter stubble as opposed to clean shaven or long beards.
2. Women looking for long term relationships, commitment, protection, and all the other good stuff, preferred the men with the longer beards. (Notice my biased perspective.)
3. Homosexual men prefer men with longer beards.
So, what can we gather from this one study? ( I am sure there are other articles but this one was a great read. The link is posted at the bottom
1. If you want to have more of an opportunity for a one night stand or a fun spring fling, then keep the beard to a light stubble and you might just experience a brief roll in the hay.
2. If you desire to stay in the hay a while longer, you may want to grow the beard to the length of the desired stay in the hay. The longer the beard the longer the perceived relationship will be.
3. If you are a gay man, statistics show that other gay men are more attracted to more facial hair.
I would say that the answer to the question, "To Beard or Not to Beard?" in regards to one's love life, is a resounding BEARD-- to the length of desired relationship you are looking for.

As always, if you like it give it a heart and a share...if you hate it--I really don't care:)
Sincerely,
Stephen
